Janet Kelsey has enjoyed a fulfilling career as a professional singer, teacher, and conductor. As an alto soloist, she has performed throughout the UK, and as a member of the quintet Voices in Concert, she has appeared on BBC television, in cathedrals, National Trust homes, and at Snape Maltings. As Director of Music at Hymers College, Hull, until 2003, she conducted no fewer than seven choirs and also taught singing, harmony, and counterpoint at the University of Hull.

At the Gresham's School music department for 12 years, she was responsible for implementing the academic program and directed the girls' choirs, the string orchestra, and the junior jazz band. As music director of the Fakenham Choral Society, she conducted many major works with a full orchestra, including Verdi's Requiem, Mozart's Mass in C minor, Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Britten's St. Nicholas, Will Todd's Mass in Blue, Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, and many others. After leaving the Fakenham Choral Society and retiring from Gresham's, she spent several seasons as general manager of Ladies Who Sing, an all-female choir based in Aylsham. She has also been frequently invited to lead workshops for other choirs.

She now lives in France where she directs with mastery:

"The Sinfonia Choir of Civray".
